Thanks Guitar Hero – You Inspired Me to Dust Off the Old Ibanez.

So, I played guitar through middle-high-school and into college. I pretty much lost interest after I got out of school… started work, etc. Well, after spending the last couple months honing my fake chops on GHIII, I decided to take the plunge and clean up the old guitar I had sitting in a closet. I restrung it and cleaned it up yesterday, and today I went out and picked up a little tweed Fender Mini-Twin amp, which was a lot of fun for about 30 minutes, until the input jack started exhibiting a short. I suppose I’ll return it for another one. Anyway… I did plug the guitar into Garageband and played with that a bit. I have to say, I was much impressed with the amp emulators and effects available in such a simple program. Sounded like a full stack coming out of my Macbook Pro. Too much fun.

I was a little disappointed in the amp I got, but maybe it was just a fluke. Anyway… I suppose I need a non-computer or video game related hobby, so maybe this is a good thing to get back into. I must dig up my old tab books now.

And I thought I was the only one suffering the same urge to get back to my guitar after playing GHIII I did just the same with my old guitar … Happy Jamming !!! :)

Thanks Chad. I recognise this so much… I used to spend days after days playing guitar and now it seems from an other age. I’ll pick up my guitar today, see if it still inspires me. I remember it was very stress relieving. A bit like meditation, but more down to earth and probably as effective. I even used to play and sing in a band. Made my own songs. Mmm..I’m getting old.

Man I wish I had Guitar Hero 3 I played it at Rock am Ring Festival in Germany and it was so much fun. they had a promotional thing going on there, but is it really fun playing for a while or do you get sick of it after some time?

Speaking as someone who spends a good deal of time split between the computer and the guitar, I highly recommend using the guitar as a relief from the computer. Get yourself a decent little practice amp, like a fender blues junior so you feel good about the sound – a bad amp will just make you frustrated and give up.

I have dusted off my old sunburst read Hohner acoustic and the kids are mad on playing and learning the guitar since we got GH3.

I just wish we had enough room for a drum kit! :)

This post made me miss the feel of my old Gretch in my hands. I’m gonna go turn off the damn computer and pull her out of the case. Thanks!

I think fender was the best guitar 15 years ago.
Now its a bit different cos there is so many nice brand as well, but yeah years ago this was something.
And now it’s just classic guitar, nothing special.
I don’t thing fender amps was good, just on average im guesing.

Yep Yep Yep, it’s very easy to get side tracked when you are just starting work, lots of things change in a persons life especially routine. Go to see you made it back.

Sometimes when amps aren’t playing for an extended amount of time (especially tube amps) they can exhibit a shorting out sound. You may want to play it quite a bit before you return it.

I noticed you have the headstock of a Tele. What year is that? Tele’s are my favorite.

    Take care.

    John :)

I think playing the guitar is like riding a bicycle – you will never forget it. Very often a hobby from school days brings back many memories. It’s one of the reasons why it is so exciting. So get a new amplifier and go back to playing.

How’d you like the amp besides the short? I need to get a small practice amp and I’m a Fender guy. So, I thought about getting one of these. Thanks! :)
