had to chime in after hours of trying this and that, couldn't really find anything that drilled down like this thread has. I tried limiting number of enabled fonts and that didn't do it but FONTNUKE did. maybe all the little things added up but I'm amazed it finally worked. hope others find this thread, I've wrestled with this for years now. thanks!

Not just one of the free solutions worked for me. I had to use three different methods to correct my issue. I took all of my fonts out of MACHD -> Library -> Fonts and put them in System -> library Fonts. Put the font that I was having the issue with in my User -> Library -> Fonts folder. Went into flash preferences and set "read fonts in english" in the text section. Then, I had to download FontNuke to clear the font cache. Restarted the computer and everything worked. I went back and tried each solution individually and it did not work as well. Some fonts were fixed when others were not. Finally switched back to what I had and had to clear the font cache again with FontNuke.

This would not have of been possible without all of the collective thinking going on in this blog. Thanks guys!!

Here's what I did after reading through the helpful suggestions. Maybe it will help someone out!

Downloaded FONT NUKE. Followed all the prompts.

I then deleted the desired fonts from the 'Computer' folder in font book. Reinstalled them into the 'Computer' folder. Opened up Flash and HUZZAH!!! :D

Hello Guys,

Kudos to the person who suggested FONT NUKE. Its free!!! Installed it, rebooted the MAC, opened flash cs3 and almost lost my breath when I saw all the fonts in the fonts list. Those never showed up for about 6 months until I came across this discussion forum.

Thanks Again.

(Font not showing up in Flash)

Solution for me: 2 steps

1. Reinstalled Helvetica Neue LT Std font into System>Library>Fonts (if you have the original font... if not just try step 2.)
2. Moved all fonts from MacHD>Library>Fonts TO System>Library>Fonts (so no fonts are in the MacHD>Library>Fonts location) I also moved all fonts from the User>Library>Fonts to the System>Library>Fonts location.

* [co-worker found that works for all of his fonts except one, so he put that one font in the User>Library>fonts folder and it works.]

This problem made me loose half my hairdue, soooo iritating.
This thread is all I could find that adresses the exact problem...unbelievable. So here's what I've got:
- FONTNUKE!
- Limit your fonts! (I had like 3000 fonts, narrowed it down to about 500)
- I put them in system/lib/fonts
Can't believe how long this took me, and can't believe that this queste is over...
good luck!

If you're on a MAC OS X running Adobe CS3. Photoshop & Illustrator will recognize TTF and OTF fonts but Flash CS3 will not. You'll have to convert your fonts to OTF.dfont for Flash to recognize them. You can use Trans Type to do this. You can get TransType here: http://www.fontlab.com/font-converter/transtype/
Then open FontBook and disable the duplicate fonts. Make sure that the only fonts enabled are the OTF.dfont ones you just created.
Open Flash and Voila, your fonts are there....
Phew it took me over a year to resolve this stoopid problem. I hope this helps somebody else out there.
