I got to agree with "You" above and believe that the future with Silverlight lies in 3D. Otherwise they don't stand a chance.

This is good article but i dont agree with some of the things said:
1. Moonlight is coming strong so i think Linux is covered pretty good (and it will continue to grow)
2. Silverlight can be used to program for Windows Phone 7 so this is also covered

all in all i think Silverlight has bright future.

Just my 2 cents :)

Ubuntu is making inroads on the desktop? On what planet? Please, stop the hype. Linux is on the desktop is not happening, period.

Leaving that aside, you are probably right on the rest of your points, though personally I'm a huge fan of the C# language.

I don't have as much experience as several of the posters here - just a CIS degree and about 3 years of professional work experience in web design. What makes Silverlight the winner for me is the fact that as a .Net developer I can program Silverlight apps in a language I already know and use (C# or VB), meaning I don't have to learn a new language(i.e. Flash Action Script). With the web already being a mash-up of so many different technologies (each typically with their own language), it is nice to finally have a new technology without a new language to learn.

Hello
I may come too much late to read this what you talk is history now there's silverlight 3 vs flash+flex+Air now
there's new expression blend 3 with integration with PSD And AI files + the coolest sketchflow now I have new server side support RiaServices and WCF deep linking navigation 3d with silverlight I started as a Silverlight developer and I have made my own choice and I have no expreince in flash/flex development with all my respect to this great technology
And I think that competition will be good for us all
Adobe will not do good if it feel that"I'm the only option thay have" It will not emprove so I expect improvment in Adobe
And I'm very EXTEND to see this improvment
please all be subjected I own nothing to both microsoft or adobe to be a fanatic for any of them

First:
Macs stink.
Second:
Silverlight just came out, and Mac IDEs will come soon.
Third:
Face it. Flash is dead.
